HFRI (ELIDEK): Scholarships & Research Funding The Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI/ELIDEK) is Greece's national research funding body. Established by Law 4429/2016, it funds research without thematic or geographic restrictions, with scientific quality and excellence as the sole criterion. What HFRI Funds 1. PhD Candidate Scholarships Financial support for doctoral dissertations at Greek universities — the foundation's best-known scholarship category. 2. Postdoctoral Research Projects Funding for research projects carried out by postdoctoral researchers at Greek institutions. 3. Faculty/Researcher Projects Support for high-quality research projects led by faculty members or researchers. 4. Equipment & Science-and-Society Actions Funding for high-value research equipment and flagship outreach actions. Important for Master's Students HFRI does not fund master's tuition — its scholarships target mainly PhD candidates and researchers. It is, however, the key funding body if you plan to continue to a doctorate, and many funded research projects employ master's students in research teams. How to Apply 1.
